Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Barnsley: The Tykes do the business against struggling Shrews

Shrewsbury Town were defeated at home by Barnsley at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday. Shrewsbury Town arrived with the intention of improving their league position after a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth FC. Barnsley were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-0 victory against Forest Green Rovers. Shrewsbury Town are now in 14th place on the table and have 23 points while Barnsley sit in 8th with 27 points after 18 matches.

The Tykes started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Adam Phillips found the net on the 10 minute mark, saw out the first half 1-0. The second 45 minutes ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Substitutions for Shrewsbury Town included Tom Bloxham, Robert Street, Carl Winchester and Josh Bailey for Christian Saydee, Ryan Bowman, Matthew Pennington and Jordan Shipley, respectively. Barnsley replaced Slobodan Tedic, Tom Edwards and Herbie Kane for Josh Benson, Robbie Cundy and Jack Aitchison.

There were bookings for Rekeil Pyke, Tom Flanagan, Jordan Shipley, Cheyenne Dunkley and Luke Leahy from Shrewsbury Town. For Barnsley, Slobodan Tedic and Bradley Collins saw yellow.

Shrewsbury Town will next play Sheffield Wednesday away, with Barnsley facing Milton Keynes Dons at home.
