Sheffield Wednesday strolled past Wycombe Wanderers with a 3-1 win on Saturday at Hillsborough Stadium. SWFC were looking for a victory following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town in their previous game. Wycombe had lost their previous match against Derby County. SWFC are now in 3rd place, with 20 points from 11 matches, while Wycombe sit in 17th, with 11 points from 11.

SWFC started the match strongly, with an early calamitous own goal from Joe Jacobson in the 1st minute. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Sam Vokes in the 10th minute, brought The Chairboys level. SWFC in turn, then responded on the 32 minute mark, grabbing the lead with an effort from Barry Bannan, ending the first half 2-1.

The Owls continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Callum Paterson just before the final whistle so at full time it was 3-1 to SWFC.

Substitutions for SWFC included Mallik Wilks, Tyreeq Bakinson and Callum Paterson for Lee Gregory, Josh Windass and Barry Bannan, respectively. Wycombe brought on Nick Freeman, Ali Al-Hamadi, Christian Forino and Jordan Obita for Lewis Wing, Daryl Horgan, Joe Jacobson and Jason McCarthy.

The referee booked two players from Wycombe, Alfie Mawson and Jack Grimmer.

SWFC will next travel to Port Vale, while Wycombe will face Plymouth Argyle at home.
