SWFC 2 – Charlton Athletic 0: Visitors to Hillsborough Stadium leave with nothing

Sheffield Wednesday snatched all three points from Charlton Athletic in a 2-0 victory on Saturday, at Hillsborough Stadium. SWFC were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Charlton Athletic lost 2-0 in the last match they played against Milton Keynes Dons. After today’s result, SWFC and Charlton Athletic sit 6th, (58 points) and 16th, (39 points), in the table respectively, after 36 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Owls, thanks to an early goal from George Byers in the 5th minute. SWFC then scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Callum Paterson just before half-time. The first half ended 2-0. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

For SWFC, Florian Kamberi, Lewis Gibson, Ciaran Brennan and Sylla Sow, came on for Saido Berahino, Jack Hunt, Marvin Johnson and Barry Bannan. Charlton Athletic brought on Diallang Jaiyesimi, Jayden Stockley, Jonathan Leko and Scott Fraser, to replace Adam Matthews, Albie Morgan, Mason Burstow and Alex Gilbey.

There were bookings for Liam Palmer, Jordan Storey and Callum Paterson from SWFC, and Diallang Jaiyesimi and Ben Purrington, for Charlton Athletic.

SWFC will next travel to Lincoln City, while Charlton Athletic will face Sunderland AFC at home.
