Portsmouth 2-1 Peterborough: Pompey fight back to land home win

Peterborough United on away loss to Portsmouth FC at Fratton Park on Saturday. Portsmouth FC were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Port Vale away (1-0), the other to Bristol Rovers at home (3-1), while Peterborough United were beaten 2-1 in their previous match against Derby County. Portsmouth FC are now in 2nd place on the table and have 17 points while Peterborough United sit in 6th with 12 points after 7 matches.

Peterborough United dominated the first half, with an early goal from Jack Marriott in the 5th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Dane Scarlett equalised for Portsmouth FC, 38 minutes in. The score at half time remained 1-1.

Portsmouth FC rallied after this and were rewarded, when Dane Scarlett found the net once more in the 70th minute, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Portsmouth FC included Recco Hackett-Fairchild, Josh Koroma, Joe Morrell, Joe Pigott and Jay Mingi for Owen Dale, Ronan Curtis, Tom Lowery, Dane Scarlett and Colby Bishop, respectively. Peterborough United brought on Kwame Poku, Ricky Jade-Jones and Ephron Mason-Clark, to replace Ben Thompson, Harrison Burrows and Jack Marriott.

There were bookings for Joe Rafferty and Clark Robertson from Portsmouth FC, and Frankie Kent, for Peterborough United.

Portsmouth FC will next travel to Barnsley, while Peterborough United will face Forest Green Rovers at home.
