Portsmouth FC 3 – Oxford United 2: Home fans rewarded with victory at Fratton Park

Portsmouth FC snatched all three points from Oxford United in a 3-2 victory on Tuesday, at Fratton Park. Portsmouth FC arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 3-3 draw against Fleetwood Town. Oxford United were coming from consecutive wins against Cambridge Utd and Crewe Alexandra. At the moment, Portsmouth FC are in 10th place, with 51 points from 24 matches, while Oxford United sit in 4th, with 62 points from 24.
Oxford United dominated the first half, thanks to an early goal from Marcus Browne in the 3rd minute. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Sean Raggett, 42 minutes in brought Portsmouth FC level. However they weren’t finished yet and George Hirst made it 2-1 just before half-time, finishing the first half 2-1.
Portsmouth FC continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Hayden Carter finding the net in the 58th minute. In the end though, Oxford United, at 81 minutes hit back though via a Luke McNally goal. The game ended with a 3-2 home victory.
Both managers used all substitutions. For Portsmouth FC, Clark Robertson, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Tyler Walker, came on for Denver Hume, Marcus Harness and George Hirst, Oxford United brought on Sam Baldock, Gavin Whyte and Anthony Forde, to replace Marcus Browne, Steve Seddon and Nathan Holland.
There were bookings for Hayden Carter from Portsmouth FC, and Sam Long, for Oxford United.
Oxford United and Portsmouth FC will next play at home to Burton Albion and Accrington Stanley respectively.
