Portsmouth 3-1 Bristol Rovers: Pompey too strong for The Pirates at Fratton Park

Bristol Rovers fell to an away defeat at the hands of Portsmouth FC at Fratton Park on Saturday. Portsmouth FC were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Cambridge Utd at home and Cheltenham Town away, by 4-1 and 2-0 respectively. Bristol Rovers, on the other hand, lost 3-0 in the last match they played against Barnsley. As the table looks today, Portsmouth FC are in 3rd place in the table and have 11 points while Bristol Rovers sit in 15th with 6 points after 5 matches.

Portsmouth FC started the first half well, when Connor Ogilvie gave Portsmouth FC the lead, at 32 minutes, concluding the first half 1-0.

Bristol Rovers took the initiative in the second half, thanks to a goal from Aaron Collins in the 61st minute. However, each side looked hungry to win and Portsmouth FC then found the back of the net, at 82 minutes thanks to Joe Pigott, taking the score to 2-1. Portsmouth FC then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Owen Dale just before the final whistle to make it 3-1.

Substitutions for Portsmouth FC included Tom Lowery, Dane Scarlett, Joe Pigott and Recco Hackett-Fairchild for Louis Thompson, Ronan Curtis, Michael Jacobs and Colby Bishop, repectively. Bristol Rovers brought on Harry Anderson, Ryan Loft, Alfie Kilgour and Harvey Saunders for Glenn Whelan, Jordan Rossiter, Lewis Gibson and John Marquis.

There were bookings for Marlon Pack, Michael Morrison and Dane Scarlett from Portsmouth FC, and Glenn Whelan, Lewis Gibson, Jordan Rossiter, Sam Finley and Paul Coutts, for Bristol Rovers.

Portsmouth FC will next travel to Port Vale, while Bristol Rovers will face Shrewsbury Town at home.
