Portsmouth FC 4 – Accrington Stanley 0: Bad day for visitors at Fratton Park

Portsmouth FC’s 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Saturday, was hard fought at Fratton Park. Portsmouth FC arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 3-3 draw against Fleetwood Town. Accrington Stanley were able to continue their winning streak after a 3-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers in their last match. At the moment, Portsmouth FC and Accrington Stanley are 10th, (54 points) and 12th, (46 points), in the table respectively, after 37 matches.

Portsmouth FC didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with George Hirst opening the rout, at 16 minutes. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Sean Raggett at the 28 minute mark. The first half ended 2-0.

Portsmouth FC continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with George Hirst finding the net again in the 56th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Ryan Tunnicliffe made it 4-0 just before the final whistle to make it 4-0.

Both managers used all available substitutions. For Portsmouth FC, Joe Morrell, Tyler Walker and Jay Mingi, came on for Louis Thompson, George Hirst and Aiden O’Brien, Accrington Stanley brought on Rosaire Longelo, Harry Pell and Tommy Leigh to replace Yeboah Amankwah, Seamus Conneely and Harvey Rodgers.

The referee booked five players. Clark Robertson and Mahlon Romeo from Portsmouth FC, who saw yellow cards and Marcus Harness, sent off with a red, as well as for Accrington Stanley Harry Pell and Michael Nottingham received yellows.

Portsmouth FC will next play Ipswich Town away, with Accrington Stanley facing Charlton Athletic at home.
