Morecambe FC 0-3 Sheffield Wednesday: Owls soar at the Globe Arena

Sheffield Wednesday delivered a resounding 3-0 victory against Morecambe FC on Tuesday, at Globe Arena. Morecambe FC were looking for a victory after a 2-2 draw against Bristol Rovers whilst SWFC were beaten 2-0 in their previous match against Barnsley. Morecambe FC and SWFC sit 23rd, (4 points) and 4th, (16 points), in the table respectively, after 9 matches.

Following a goalless first half, SWFC continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Josh Windass gave them the lead on the 70 minute mark. The Owls looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from George Byers, at 78 minutes to establish a 2-0. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Michael Smith, at 83 minutes to make it 3-0.

Substitutions for Morecambe FC included Arthur Gnahoua, Shane McLoughlin, Ousmane Fane and Jonathan Obika for Cole Stockton, Jensen Weir, Jake Taylor and Kieran Phillips, respectively. SWFC brought on Marvin Johnson, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Callum Paterson, Dominic Iorfa and Will Vaulks, to replace Alexander Mighten, Reece James, Lee Gregory, Josh Windass and Barry Bannan.

The referee booked one player from SWFC, Mark McGuinness.

Morecambe FC will next travel to Forest Green Rovers, while SWFC will face Ipswich Town at home.
