Morecambe FC 1 – Barnsley 0: Visitors leave Globe Arena empty handed

Morecambe FC’s 1-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday, was hard fought at Globe Arena. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Morecambe FC arrived with the intention of improving their league position after a 1-1 draw against Burton Albion. Barnsley had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Bolton Wanderers. Morecambe FC are now in 23rd place on the table and have 11 points while Barnsley sit in 9th with 21 points after 15 matches.

Morecambe FC started the match strongly, thanks to a goal from Kieran Phillips in the 39th minute, ending the first half 1-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for Morecambe FC included Anthony O’Connor, Dylan Edward Connolly and Adam Major for Jensen Weir, Cole Stockton and Kieran Phillips, respectively. Barnsley brought on Herbie Kane, Jack Aitchison, Fabio Jalo and Ziyad Larkeche, to replace Luca John Connell, Adam Phillips, Josh Martin and Robbie Cundy.

There were bookings for Ryan Cooney, Dylan Edward Connolly and Liam Shaw from Morecambe FC. For Barnsley, Robbie Cundy and Tom Edwards saw yellow.

Morecambe FC will next play Cheltenham Town away, with Barnsley facing Lincoln City at home.
