Lincoln City 3 – SWFC 1: Visitors leave Sincil Bank with nothing

On Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday suffer an away defeat to Lincoln City at Sincil Bank. Lincoln City were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-0 to Gillingham FC while SWFC were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Charlton Athletic and Doncaster Rovers. After today’s result, Lincoln City are currently 18th with 38 points from 37 matches, while SWFC sit in 6th, with 61 points from 37.

Lincoln City started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from John Marquis in the 3rd minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Saido Berahino equalised for SWFC at the 33 minute mark to see out the first half 1-1.

Lincoln City continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Brooke Norton-Cuffy, 62 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a second effort from John Marquis in the 76th minute with a final score of 3-1.

For Lincoln City, Jordan Wright, came on for Josh Griffiths. SWFC brought on Lee Gregory, Florian Kamberi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, to replace Callum Paterson, Saido Berahino and George Byers.

There were bookings for Chris Maguire and Conor McGrandles from Lincoln City. For SWFC, Callum Paterson saw yellow.

Lincoln City will next travel to AFC Wimbledon, while SWFC will face Cambridge Utd at home.
