Ipswich Town 2 – Wigan Athletic 2: Points shared with visitors at Portman Road Stadium

Ipswich Town were held to 2-2 draw by Wigan Athletic down on Tuesday at Portman Road Stadium. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Ipswich Town were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Rotherham United. Wigan Athletic, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against Cambridge Utd. As the table looks today, Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic sit 11th, (66 points) and 1st, (88 points), in the table respectively, after 44 matches.

Wigan Athletic found the net first, with Will Keane giving Wigan Athletic the lead just before half-time. The score at half time was 0-1.

Ipswich Town took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Conor Chaplin, 61 minutes in. The momentum was now with Ipswich Town, who then scored again through a goal from Sam Morsy, at 73 minutes to establish a 2-1. In the end though, their lead was short lived, as Will Keane equalised for Wigan Athletic just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 2-2.

For Ipswich Town, Dominic Thompson and James Norwood, came on for Matthew Penney and Macauley Bonne. Wigan Athletic brought on Jordan Cousins, Tom Pearce and Gwion Edwards, to replace Stephen Humphrys, Kelland Watts and Jason Kerr.

There were bookings for Sam Morsy, Luke Woolfenden, Wes Burns and Tyreeq Bakinson from Ipswich Town. For Wigan Athletic, Kelland Watts and Callum Lang saw yellow.

Ipswich Town will next travel to Crewe Alexandra, while Wigan Athletic will face Plymouth Argyle at home.
