Fleetwood Town 2 – Oxford United 3: Visitors secure points with win at Highbury Stadium

Oxford United beat Fleetwood Town with a thumping 3-2 victory on Friday at Highbury Stadium. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Fleetwood Town were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Accrington Stanley. Oxford United, on the other hand, lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Sunderland AFC. As the table looks today, Fleetwood Town are in 21st place on the table and has 38 points while Oxford United sit in 8th with 72 points after 43 matches.

Oxford United scored first, with an early goal from Nathan Holland in the 2nd minute. Oxford United looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Cameron Brannagan in the 7th minute to establish a 2-0. The momentum was now with Oxford United, who then scored again through a goal from Billy Bodin in the 16th minute to establish a 3-0. Fleetwood Town in turn, then responded at the 39 minute mark increasing their lead with an effort from Ellis Harrison to see out the first half 1-3.

Fleetwood Town started the second half with renewed vigour, thanks to a goal from Cian Hayes in the 53rd minute, leaving the final score at 3-2.

For Fleetwood Town, Anthony Pilkington, Josh Harrop and Joe Garner, came on for Harvey Macadam, Paddy Lane and Ellis Harrison. Oxford United brought on Gavin Whyte, James Henry, Ryan Williams and Marcus McGuane, to replace Nathan Holland, Billy Bodin, Mark Sykes and James Henry.

There were bookings for Ellis Harrison from Fleetwood Town. For Oxford United, Cameron Brannagan and Jack Stevens saw yellow.

Fleetwood Town will play their next fixture away against Gillingham FC, while Oxford United will face Milton Keynes Dons at home.
