Fleetwood Town 3-0 Accrington Stanley: Bad day for visitors at Highbury Stadium

On Saturday, Accrington Stanley suffered an away defeat to Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium. Fleetwood Town were aiming to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against Forest Green Rovers, while Accrington Stanley were beaten 3-1 in their previous match against Peterborough United. Fleetwood Town and Accrington Stanley are 15th, (20 points) and 20th, (16 points), in the table respectively, after 17 matches.

After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Fleetwood Town who started the second half strongly, with an early goal from Carlos Mendes Gomes in the 50th minute. The momentum was again with Fleetwood Town, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Shaun Rooney on the 54 minute mark to establish a 2-0 result. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Josh Earl, at 59 minutes to make it 3-0.

Fleetwood Town brought on Daniel Batty, Cian Hayes, Lewis Warrington and Paddy Lane for Joe Garner, Callum Morton, Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu and Josh Vela. Accrington Stanley brought on Rosaire Longelo and Leslie Adekoya, to replace Baba Fernandes and Shaun Whalley.

There were bookings for Carlos Mendes Gomes, Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu and Josh Earl from Fleetwood Town, and Shaun Whalley, for Accrington Stanley.

Fleetwood Town will next travel to Bristol Rovers, while Accrington Stanley will face Sheffield Wednesday at home.
