Exeter 2-4 Oxford United: Visitors secure victory at St James Park
Oxford United beated Exeter City 4-2 on Saturday at St James Park. Exeter were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning last match whilst Oxford United were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against Wycombe Wanderers. Exeter and Oxford United currently occupy 10th and 19th spots in the table, with 18 points and 14 points respectively after 14 matches.
Oxford United started the match strongly, with a goal from Cameron Brannagan, 12 minutes in. The momentum was again with Oxford United, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Sam Long, 31 minutes in to establish a 2-0 result. However they weren’t finished yet and Ciaron Brown made it 3-0 just before half-time, finishing the first half 3-0.
Oxford United staged a comeback in the second half, when Kyle Joseph found the net, at 54 minutes. However, Exeter refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Jevani Brown in the 65th minute. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Sonn Cox just before the full time to make it 4-2.
Substitutions for Exeter included Edward James, Matt Jay, Kgaogelo Chauke and Sonn Cox for Pierce Sweeney, Rakeem Harper, Harry Kite and Jay Stansfield, respectively. Oxford United brought on Alex Gorrin, Billy Bodin, Djavan Anderson and Josh Murphy, to replace Marcus Browne, James Henry, Matty Taylor and Kyle Joseph.
