Exeter 2 – Fleetwood Town 1: Points secure for The Grecians at St James Park

Exeter enjoyed a home victory against Fleetwood Town at St James Park on Saturday. Both Exeter and Fleetwood Town came from defeats in their previous league games. Exeter arrived at the match looking to pick up more points, following defeat to Oxford United, while Fleetwood Town had lost their previous match against Shrewsbury Town. Exeter are currently 8th with 21 points from 15 matches, while Fleetwood Town sit in 16th, with 16 points from 15.

It was an impressive opening from Fleetwood Town, when Carlos Mendes Gomes found the net in the 28th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jay Stansfield equalised for The Grecians on the 30 minute mark, which brought Kevin Nicholson’s squad level at 1-1 at the half time break

Exeter rallied after this and were rewarded, when Sam Nombe found the net just before the full time, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Exeter included Timothee Dieng, Matt Jay and Rakeem Harper for Harry Kite, Jay Stansfield and Cheick Diabate, respectively. Fleetwood Town replaced Daniel Batty, Callum Morton, Carlos Mendes Gomes and Paddy Lane for Joe Garner, Cian Hayes, Sam Glenfield and Promise Omochere.

The referee booked one player from Fleetwood Town, Cian Hayes.

Exeter will next travel to Derby County, while Fleetwood Town will face Forest Green Rovers at home.
