Charlton Athletic 2 – Morecambe FC 3: Visitors secure points with win at The Valley

Charlton Athletic on home loss to Morecambe FC at The Valley on Friday. Charlton Athletic were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Rotherham United. Morecambe FC, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against Cambridge Utd. Following today’s result, Charlton Athletic are currently 15th with 53 points from 43 matches, while Morecambe FC sit in 21st, with 38 points from 43.

Morecambe FC dominated the first half, with Cole Stockton finding the net at the 26 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Arthur Gnahoua made it 2-0 just before half-time to see out the first half 0-2.

Charlton Athletic started the second half with an intensified spirit, thanks to a goal from Jayden Stockley, 53 minutes in. However, Morecambe FC increased their lead 3-1 thanks to a second effort from Arthur Gnahoua in the 59th minute. In the end though, Charlton Athletic in the 81st minute hit back though via a Chuks Aneke goal and seeing the game end 3-2.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Charlton Athletic, Conor Washington, Jake Forster-Caskey and Chuks Aneke, came on for Alex Gilbey, Albie Morgan and Mason Burstow, Morecambe FC brought on Ryan Cooney, Anthony O’Connor and Shane McLoughlin, to replace Liam Gibson, Dylan Edward Connolly and Aaron Wildig.

The referee booked Jason Pearce for Charlton Athletic.

Charlton Athletic will next travel to Cambridge Utd, while Morecambe FC will face Portsmouth FC at home.
