Charlton Athletic 4-4 Ipswich Town: Remarkable draw at The Valley

On Saturday, Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town played out a 4-4 draw at The Valley. Charlton Athletic were looking to get back to winning ways after losing 2-0 to Milton Keynes Dons in their last match. Ipswich Town were coming from consecutive wins against Port Vale and Derby County. Charlton Athletic are now in 9th place on the table and have 23 points while Ipswich Town sit in 2nd with 37 points after 17 matches.

Ipswich Town started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when George Edmundson found the net just before half-time to take them into the break 1-0 up.

However, Charlton Athletic refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Jesuran Rak-Sakyi, 63 minutes in. Charlton Athletic looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Albie Morgan, at 76 minutes to establish a 2-2. However, each side looked hungry to win and Ipswich Town then found the back of the net in the 90th minute thanks to Freddie Ladapo, taking the score to 3-2. Ipswich Town looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Sam Morsy, 90 minutes in to establish a 4-2. However, Charlton Athletic refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Terell Thomas after 90 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and George Dobson made it 4-4 just before the final whistle to make it 4-4.

Substitutions for Charlton Athletic included Albie Morgan, Samuel Lavelle, Chuks Aneke and Corey Blackett-Taylor for Mandela Egbo, Eoghan O’Connell, Jayden Stockley and Charlie Kirk, respectively. Ipswich Town replaced Tyreece John-Jules, Kayden Jackson, Conor Chaplin and Wes Burns for Freddie Ladapo, Kyle Edwards, Marcus Harness and Richard Keogh.

There were bookings for George Dobson and Sean Clare from Charlton Athletic, and Dominic Ball, Tyreece John-Jules, Sam Morsy, Christian Walton and Wes Burns, for Ipswich Town.

Charlton Athletic will next play Burton Albion away, with Ipswich Town facing Cheltenham Town at home.
