Charlton Athletic 4-2 Exeter: Addicks pull through at The Valley

Charlton Athletic defeated Exeter City 4-2 on Tuesday at The Valley. Charlton Athletic were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Lincoln City in their previous game whilst Exeter were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-0 win against Barnsley in their last match. Charlton Athletic are now in 11th place, with 16 points from 8 matches, while Exeter sit in 8th, with 18 points from 8.

Charlton Athletic found the net first, when Miles Leaburn gave them the lead, 20 minutes in. Charlton Athletic looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Alex Hartridge, 24 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, Exeter hit back though in the 37th minute, with a goal from Jay Stansfield to see out the first half 2-1.

Charlton Athletic once more applied the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Chuks Aneke, 84 minutes in. The momentum was again with Charlton Athletic, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Jack Payne on the 90 minute mark to establish a 4-1 result. In the end though, The Grecians pull-back following a Sam Nombe goal just before the final whistle. The match ended with a 4-2 home victory.

Exeter and Charlton Athletic will next play at home to Oxford United and Portsmouth FC respectively.
