Cardiff 2 – Stoke 1: Victory for The Bluebirds at the Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City’s 2-1 win over Stoke City on Wednesday, was hard fought at the Cardiff City Stadium. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Cardiff arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a scoreless draw against Preston North End in their previous match. Stoke are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As it stands, both teams are on 46 points and sit in 17th and 16th places respectively after 38 matches.
Stoke started the game well, thanks to Lewis Baker giving The Potters the lead in the 23rd minute. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Thomas Doyle managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 39 minute mark at 1-1. Cardiff then scored once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Jordan Hugill just before half-time, finishing the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-1.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Cardiff, Isaak Davies, Uche Ikpeazu and Will Vaulks, came on for Mark Thomas Harris, Jordan Hugill and Thomas Doyle, Stoke brought on Josh Maja, Mario Vrancic and D’Margio Wright-Phillips to replace Morgan Fox, Romaine Sawyers and Tyrese Campbell.
The referee booked Jordan Hugill for Cardiff.
Cardiff will next play Middlesbrough away, with Stoke facing Millwall at home.
