Cambridge 2 – Morecambe FC 1: Visitors to Abbey Stadium leave with nothing

Cambridge Utd’s 2-1 win over Morecambe FC on Saturday, was hard fought at Abbey Stadium. Both Cambridge and Morecambe FC arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Cambridge were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Ipswich Town away (1-0), the other to AFC Wimbledon away (1-0). Morecambe FC, on the other hand, were able to continue their winning streak after a 3-0 win against Burton Albion in their last match. As it stands, Cambridge are in 13th place on the table and has 54 points while Morecambe FC sit in 20th with 38 points after 42 matches.

Morecambe FC took the initiative in the second half, with Cole Stockton finding the net at the 68 minute mark. Cambridge in turn, then responded, at 71 minutes increasing their lead with an effort from Joe Ironside, leaving the final score at 2-1.
Both coaches used all substitutions. For Cambridge, Wes Hoolahan, Jubril Okedina and Harrison Dunk, came on for James Brophy, Sam Sherring and Jack Iredale, Morecambe FC brought on Jonah Ayunga, Jonathan Obika and Shane McLoughlin, to replace Arthur Gnahoua, Aaron Wildig and Rhys Bennett.
The referee booked Ousmane Fane for Morecambe FC.
Morecambe FC and Cambridge will next play away to Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic respectively.
