Cambridge 2 – Cheltenham Town 2: Abbey Stadium sees frustrating draw

Cambridge and Cheltenham Town played a 2-2 game at the end of the League One season. Following the final whistle at the end of the last game of the League One season, Cambridge are in 14th place on the table and has 58 points while Cheltenham Town sit in 15th with 56 points after 46 matches.

Cambridge started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Sam Smith in the 22nd minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Alfie May equalised for Cheltenham Town in the 23rd minute to see out the first half 1-1.

Cambridge fought back, thanks to an early 2nd effort from Sam Smith in the 50th minute. In the end though, their lead was short lived, as Alfie May equalised for Cheltenham Town just before the final whistle. The final result, Cambridge 2, Cheltenham Town 2.

As for substitutions, for Cambridge, Adam May, Joe Ironside and Kai Yearn, came on for Liam O’Neil, Shilow Tracey and Wes Hoolahan, Cheltenham Town brought on Charlie Brown, Aaron Ramsey and Ben Williams, to replace Sean Long, Elliot Bonds and Lewis Freestone.

The referee booked Lewis Simper and Liam O’Neil from Cambridge. Cheltenham Town had the worst of it though, with Sean Long, William Boyle, Charlie Raglan and Alfie May seeing yellow, and William Boyle (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.
