Bristol Rovers 2-1 Cambridge: Rovers end winless streak

Bristol Rovers eased past Cambridge Utd in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Bristol Rovers were on the hunt for more points after a 2-2 draw against Exeter City while Cambridge were beaten 2-0 in their previous match against Derby County. Bristol Rovers are now in 18th place on the table and have 12 points while Cambridge sit in 13th with 16 points after 13 matches.

The first half of the match started favourably for Bristol Rovers, when Greg Taylor gave them the lead in the 17th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Joe Ironside equalised for Cambridge, 35 minutes in, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

Bristol Rovers rallied after this and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Josh Coburn, 56 minutes in, seing the match finish 2-1.

Substitutions for Bristol Rovers included Lewis Gibson, Luke McCormick, Sylvester Jasper, Trevor Clarke and Paul Coutts for Josh Coburn, James Gibbons, Aaron Collins, Antony Evans and Sam Finley, respectively. Cambridge replaced Liam O’Neil, Jack Lankester, Fejiri Okenabirhie and Shilow Tracey with Adam May, Jubril Okedina, Sam Smith and Harvey Knibbs.

There were bookings for James Belshaw, Josh Coburn, Aaron Collins and Ryan Loft from Bristol Rovers, and Paul Digby and Sam Smith, for Cambridge.

Bristol Rovers will next travel to Cheltenham Town, while Cambridge will face Sheffield Wednesday at home.
