Birmingham 2 – Coventry 4: Home defeat for Blues as The Sky Blues take points

Birmingham City fell to a home defeat at the hands of Coventry City at St Andrew’s Stadium on Friday. Birmingham were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Nottingham Forest. Coventry were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-1 victory against Fulham. After today’s result, Birmingham are in 20th place on the table and has 45 points while Coventry sit in 9th with 62 points after 42 matches.

Blues started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with Kristian Pedersen giving Birmingham the lead, 12 minutes in. Birmingham looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Gary Gardner in the 39th minute to establish a 2-0. However, Coventry weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Ben Sheaf, 40 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a second effort from Ben Sheaf just before half-time to see out the first half 2-2.

The Sky Blues continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Michael Rose at the 71 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Callum O`Hare just before the final whistle to make it 4-2.

Both managers used the full entitlement. For Birmingham, Troy Deeney, Taylor Richards and Lukas Jutkiewicz, came on for Juninho Bacuna, Nico Gordon and Scott Hogan, Coventry brought on Todd Kane, Kyle McFadzean and Martyn Waghorn, to replace Fankaty Dabo, Gustavo Hamer and Ian Maatsen.

The referee booked Juninho Bacuna, Marc Roberts, Taylor Richards and Ryan Woods for Birmingham.

Birmingham will next play Blackpool away, with Coventry facing Bournemouth at home.
