Barnsley 1 – North End 3: Visitors ecstatic after win at Oakwell Ground

Barnsley on home loss to Preston North End at Oakwell Ground on Saturday. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Barnsley were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Huddersfield Town. North End lost 4-1 in the last match they played against Blackburn Rovers. As it stands, Barnsley are in 24th place, with 30 points from 45 matches, while North End sit in 15th, with 61 points from 45.

Barnsley started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to Aiden Marsh finding the net in the 16th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Daniel Johnson equalised for North End, 23 minutes in to see out the first half 1-1.

The Lilywhites started the second half with an intensified spirit, with Daniel Johnson finding the net again after 54 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and Emil Riis made it 3-1 in the 74th minute with a final score of 3-1.

Both coaches used all substitutions. For Barnsley, Clarke Oduor, Cauley Woodrow and Jordan Helliwell, came on for Romal Palmer, Aiden Marsh and William Hondermarck, North End brought on Bambo Diaby, Mikey O’Neill and Sean Maguire to replace Patrick Bauer, Cameron Archer and Emil Riis.

The referee booked one player from North End, Liam Lindsay.

Barnsley will next play West Bromwich Albion away, with North End facing Middlesbrough at home.
