Accrington Stanley 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday: The Owls do the job at The Crown Ground

Sheffield Wednesday eased past Accrington Stanley in a 1-0 victory on Saturday at The Crown Ground. Accrington Stanley arrived at the match looking to pick up more points, following defeat to Fleetwood Town. SWFC were able to continue their winning streak after a 4-2 win against Burton Albion in their last match. Accrington Stanley are now in 20th place on the table and have 17 points while SWFC sit in 3rd with 37 points after 18 matches.

SWFC started the match strongly, when Alexander Mighten found the net, 24 minutes in, saw out the first half 1-0. The second 45 minutes ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Substitutions for Accrington Stanley included Seamus Conneely, Rosaire Longelo and Korede Yemi Adedoyin for Sean McConville, Joe Pritchard and Shaun Whalley, respectively. SWFC replaced Josh Windass and Alexander Mighten for Lee Gregory and Callum Paterson.

There were bookings for Baba Fernandes from Accrington Stanley. For SWFC, Michael Ihiekwe, Reece James and Will Vaulks saw yellow.

Accrington Stanley will next play Cambridge Utd away, with SWFC facing Shrewsbury Town at home.
