Accrington Stanley 4 – Cheltenham Town 4: Victory elusive at The Crown Ground for both sides

On Saturday, Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town were held to a 4-4 draw at The Crown Ground. Both Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town came from defeats in their previous league games. Accrington Stanley were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 2-1 to Gillingham FC. Cheltenham Town, on the other hand, were beaten 4-1 in the previous match against Sheffield Wednesday. As the table looks today, both teams are on 51 points and occupy 14th and 12th places respectively after 41 matches.
Cheltenham Town started strongly in the first half, thanks to a goal from Alfie May at the 33 minute mark. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Tommy Leigh, 45 minutes in brought Accrington Stanley level. Accrington Stanley then scored once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Sean McConville just before half-time, which saw the first half end 2-1.
Accrington Stanley fought back, thanks to an early 2nd effort from Tommy Leigh in the 48th minute. However, Cheltenham Town weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from William Boyle, 66 minutes in. However, Accrington Stanley increased their advantage with a Ellis Chapman goal at the 87 minute mark to make it 4-2. However, Cheltenham Town weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Callum Wright in the 90th minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a second effort from William Boyle just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-4.
For Accrington Stanley, John O’Sullivan and Joe Pritchard, came on for Harry Pell and Tommy Leigh. Cheltenham Town brought on Liam Sercombe, Ellis Chapman and Charlie Brown, to replace Aaron Ramsey, Elliot Bonds and George Lloyd.
The referee booked four players. Ross Sykes and Liam Coyle from Accrington Stanley, who saw yellow cards and Ross Sykes (2 yellow cards), sent off with a red, as well as for Cheltenham Town William Boyle also seeing yellows.
Accrington Stanley will next play Fleetwood Town away, with Cheltenham Town facing Portsmouth FC at home.
