Accrington Stanley 2 – Charlton Athletic 1: Home fans rewarded with victory at The Crown Ground

Accrington Stanley enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Charlton Athletic at The Crown Ground on Saturday. Accrington Stanley arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Portsmouth FC. Charlton Athletic, on the other hand, are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. After today’s result, Accrington Stanley and Charlton Athletic sit 12th, (49 points) and 17th, (40 points), in the league respectively, after 38 matches.
It was an impressive opening from Charlton Athletic, with Jayden Stockley giving Charlton Athletic the lead in the 18th minute. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Rosaire Longelo, 28 minutes in, brought Accrington Stanley level. Accrington Stanley then netted again and turned the match thanks to a goal from Tommy Leigh at the 32 minute mark to see out the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-1.
Both managers used all available substitutions. For Accrington Stanley, Ethan Hamilton, Seamus Conneely and Yeboah Amankwah, came on for Liam Coyle, Korede Yemi Adedoyin and Rosaire Longelo, Charlton Athletic brought on Conor Washington, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Mason Burstow, to replace Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington and Chris Gunter.
The referee booked seven players. Liam Coyle, Korede Yemi Adedoyin and Harry Pell from Accrington Stanley, who saw yellow cards and Tommy Leigh, sent off with a red, as well as for Charlton Athletic George Dobson, Sean Clare and Conor Washington also seeing yellows.
Accrington Stanley will next play Plymouth Argyle away, with Charlton Athletic facing Burton Albion at home.
