Accrington Stanley 2 – Bolton Wanderers 3: Visitors ecstatic after win at The Crown Ground

Bolton Wanderers beated Accrington Stanley 3-2 on Saturday at The Crown Ground. Accrington Stanley were looking to get back to winning ways after losing 3-0 to Derby County in their last match. Bolton Wanderers, meanwhile, were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers sit 17th, (16 points) and 6th, (24 points), spots respectively, after 15 matches.

Accrington Stanley started strongly in the first half, when Shaun Whalley gave them the lead, 8 minutes in, ending the first half 1-0.

Accrington Stanley started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early calamitous own goal from George Johnston in the 48th minute. However, Bolton Wanderers refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Harvey Rodgers, 56 minutes in. Bolton Wanderers looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Kieran Lee, at 71 minutes to establish a 2-2. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Oladapo Afolayan, 75 minutes in to make it 3-2.

Substitutions for Accrington Stanley included Rosaire Longelo and Nathan Delfouneso for Sean McConville and Shaun Whalley, respectively. Bolton Wanderers replaced Jack Iredale, George Thomason, Elias Kachunga, Amadou Bakayoko and Kieran Sadlier with Lloyd Isgrove, Jordan Williams, Jon Bodvarsson, Dion Charles and Oladapo Afolayan.

There were bookings for Mitchell Clarke, Sean McConville, Harvey Rodgers and Shaun Whalley from Accrington Stanley. For Bolton Wanderers, Gethin Jones saw yellow.

Accrington Stanley will next play Peterborough United away, with Bolton Wanderers facing Burton Albion at home.
