Roma on Thursday lost to Real Betis on a home defeat at the Stadio Olympico. Both Roma and Betis arrived at the challenge after previous wins. Roma had been hopeful of continuing their good run, following a 3-0 victory against Helsinki. Betis were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Razgrad Ludogorets and Helsinki. Roma are now in 3rd place, with 3 points from 3 matches, while Betis sit in 1st, with 9 points from 3.

It was an impressive opening from Roma, with a goal from Paulo Dybala, 34 minutes in. However, their lead was short-lived, as Guido Rodriguez equalised for Betis just before half-time. The first half ended 1-1.

The Green-and-Whites continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Luiz Henrique just before the full time. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Roma included Leonardo Spinazzola, Andrea Belotti, Stephan El Shaarawy and Mady Camara for Zeki Celik, Tammy Abraham, Paulo Dybala and Bryan Cristante, respectively. Betis replaced Nabil Fekir, Joaquin, Andres Guardado, Willian Jose and Juan Miranda for Luiz Henrique, Rodri, William Carvalho, Borja Iglesias and Alex Moreno.

The referee booked Gianluca Mancini from Roma and Nicolo Zaniolo went off with a red card, while Betis’ Luiz Felipe, Claudio Bravo, Andres Guardado and German Pezzella also received a yellow.
