Rennes 2 – Fenerbahçe 2: Points shared with visitors at Roazhon Park

On Thursday, Rennes and Fenerbahçe played out a 2-2 draw at Roazhon Park. Both teams arrived at the match after previous wins. Rennes were looking to continue their good run, following a 2-1 victory against AEK Larnaca. Fenerbahçe were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-1 win against Dynamo Kyiv in their last match. both teams are now on 4 points and sit in 1st and 2nd places respectively after 2 matches.

After a goalless first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Rennes who started the second half strongly, when Martin Terrier gave them the lead, 52 minutes in. The momentum was again with The Rennais, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Lovro Majer, 54 minutes in to establish a 2-0 result. However, Fenerbahçe refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Irfan Kahveci, 60 minutes in. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a penalty goal from Enner Valencia just before the full time to give a final score of 2-2.

Substitutions for Rennes included Adrien Truffert, Desire Doue, Matthis Abline, Jeremy Doku and Flavien Tait for Amine Gouiri, Kamal-Deen Sulemana, Martin Terrier, Lesley Ugochukwu and Lovro Majer, respectively. Fenerbahçe replaced Luan Peres, Michy Batshuayi, Lincoln, Joshua King and Mert Hakan Yandas for Ezgjan Alioski, Enner Valencia, Emre Mor, Joao Pedro and Diego Rossi.

The referee booked Lovro Majer, Joe Rodon and Arthur Theate from Rennes and Hamari Traore went off with a red card, while Fenerbahçe’s Joao Pedro also received a yellow.

Fenerbahçe and Rennes will next play at home to AEK Larnaca and Dynamo Kyiv respectively.
