Real Sociedad started on the right in the new Europa League Group Stage season with victory against Manchester United. Today’s result, leave both teams on 0 points and occupying 3rd and 4th positions respectively, after their first match.

Following a goalless first half, Real continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Brais Mendez in the 59th minute so at full time it was 1-0 to Real.

Substitutions for Man U included Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Charlie McNiell for Christian Eriksen, Diogo Dalot, Antony, Anthony Elanga and Tyrell Malacia, respectively. Real brought on Alexander Sorloth, Mohamed-Ali Cho, Ander Barrenetxea, Benat Turrientes and Alex Sola, to replace Umar Sadiq, David Silva, Take, Brais Mendez and Andoni Gorosabel.

There were bookings for Lisandro Martinez, Fred and David De Gea from Man U. For Real, David Silva, Aihen Munoz and Benat Turrientes saw yellow.

In the second round of action in the Europa League Group Stage Man U will travel to play Sheriff Tiraspol and Real will play Omonia Nicosia at home.
