Fenerbahçe 3 – Rennes 3: Sukru Saracoglu Stadium sees frustrating draw

On Thursday, Fenerbahçe and Rennes played out a 3-3 draw at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. Both sides arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Fenerbahçe were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the AEK Larnaca away (2-1), the other to AEK Larnaca at home (2-0). Rennes were coming back-to-back wins against Dynamo Kyiv and Dynamo Kyiv. both teams are now on 11 points and occupy 1st and 2nd places respectively after 5 matches.

The Rennais started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from Amine Gouiri in the 5th minute. Rennes looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Martin Terrier, 16 minutes in to establish a 2-0. The momentum was again with Rennes, who then scored again courtesy of a second effort from Amine Gouiri, 30 minutes in to establish a 3-0 result. Fenerbahçe in turn, then responded just before half-time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Enner Valencia and saw the first half out 3-1.

Fenerbahçe took the lead in the second half, when Miha Zajc found the net after 82 minutes. Fenerbahçe then scored once more and found an equaliser thanks to a goal from Emre Mor just before the full time to give a final score of 3-3.

Substitutions for Fenerbahçe included Ezgjan Alioski, Emre Mor, Michy Batshuayi, Miha Zajc and Arda Guler for Gustavo Henrique, Irfan Kahveci, Joao Pedro, Willian Arao and Lincoln, respectively. Rennes brought on Dogan Alemdar, Lorenz Assignon, Desire Doue, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Kamal-Deen Sulemana, to replace Steve Mandanda, Benjamin Bourigeaud, Lovro Majer, Martin Terrier and Amine Gouiri.

There were bookings for Willian Arao and Irfan Kahveci from Fenerbahçe. For Rennes, Desire Doue, Lesley Ugochukwu and Hamari Traore saw yellow.

Fenerbahçe will play away against Dynamo Kyiv, while Rennes will face AEK Larnaca at home.
