Larnaca 1 – Rennes 2: Home defeat for Larnaca as The Rennais take points

AEK Larnaca lost their first match in the new Europa League Group Stage campaign against Rennes. Today’s result, Larnaca are now in 4th place, with 0 points from 1 match, while Rennes sit in 1st, with 3 points from 1.

The first half of the match started favourably for The Rennais, when Arthur Theate gave them the lead, 29 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Oier equalised for Larnaca on the 33 minute mark and saw the first half out 1-1.

Rennes continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Lorenz Assignon just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Larnaca included Kypros Christoforou, Adam Gyurcso, Pere Pons, Rafael Lopes and Giorgos Naoum for Roberto Rosales, Omri Altman, Ivan Trickovski, Victor Olatunji and Imad Faraj, respectively. Rennes brought on Martin Terrier, Benjamin Bourigeaud and Lorenz Assignon for Birger Meling, Matthis Abline and Lovro Majer.
