Wigan 1-5 Burnley: The Clarets put on a five-star show at the Dw Stadium

Wigan Athletic suffered a home defeat to Burnley on Saturday at Dw Stadium. Wigan Athletic were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Burnley, on the other hand, secured a point against Blackpool in their previous match. As the table looks today, both teams are on 6 points and occupy 17th and 18th places after 6 matches.

Burnley started the first half well, when Jay Rodriguez opened the rout in the 45th minute. The Clarets looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Josh Brownhill at the 45 minute mark to establish a 2-0. However, Wigan Athletic weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Will Keane, at 45 minutes. However, The Clarets increased their lead 3-1 thanks to a goal from Nathan Tella, 46 minutes in. Burnley looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Josh Brownhill at the 46 minute mark to establish a 4-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Samuel Bastien made it 5-1 just before halftime, which saw the first half end 5-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 5-1.

Substitutions for Wigan Athletic included Ryan Nyambe, Thelo Aasgaard, Nathan Broadhead and Josh Magennis for Tendayi Darikwa, Will Keane, Graeme Shinnie and Curtis Tilt, repectively. Burnley brought on Darko Churlinov, Ashley Barnes, Samuel Bastien, Conrad Egan-Riley and Manuel Benson, to replace Johann Gudmundsson, Jay Rodriguez, Nathan Tella, Vitinho and Josh Brownhill.

There were bookings for Curtis Tilt from Wigan Athletic, and Arijanet Muric, for Burnley.

Burnley and Wigan Athletic will next play at home to Millwall and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
