West Brom 2-3 Birmingham: The Baggies left stunned by Blues at home

West Brom on home loss to Birmingham City at The Hawthorns on Wednesday. West Brom were looking for a victory after a 1-1 draw against Burnley. Birmingham, meanwhile, were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Preston North End. West Brom are now in 20th place on the table and have 9 points while Birmingham sit in 14th with 11 points after 10 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Blues, when Scott Hogan found the net in the 14th minute. However, their lead was short-lived, as Jed Wallace equalised for West Brom, at 23 minutes to see out the first half 1-1.

Birmingham staged a comeback in the second half, when Scott Hogan found the net once more, at 54 minutes. Birmingham looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a hat trick effort from Scott Hogan on the 71 minute mark to establish a 3-1. The Baggies in turn, then responded, at 83 minutes, grabbing the lead with an effort from Brandon Thomas-Asante. When the final whistle blew, the result was 3-2 to Birmingham.

Substitutions for West Brom included Brandon Thomas-Asante, Matthew Phillips, Jake Livermore and Erik Pieters for Okay Yokuslu, Karlan Grant, Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Kyle Bartley, respectively. Birmingham brought on Jordan James, Jonathan Leko, Hannibal Mejbri, Lukas Jutkiewicz and George Hall, to replace Krystian Bielik, Marc Roberts, Juninho Bacuna, Troy Deeney and Josh Williams.

There were bookings for Conor Townsend and Taylor Gardner-Hickman from West Brom, and Dion Sanderson, for Birmingham.

West Brom will next play Norwich City away, with Birmingham facing Coventry City at home.
