Swansea 2 – Derby 1: Narrow victory for The Swans at home to The Rams

Swansea enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Derby County at Liberty Stadium on Saturday. Both Swansea and Derby arrived on the back of wins. Swansea were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Derby, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Preston North End. After today’s result, Swansea are in 13th place on the table and has 57 points while Derby sit in 23rd with 28 points after 41 matches.

Swansea started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Joel Piroe at the 8 minute mark. The momentum was now with The Swans, who then scored again through a 2nd effort from Joel Piroe, 15 minutes in to establish a 2-0. Derby in turn, then responded at the 22 minute mark increasing their lead with an effort from Tom Lawrence, finalising the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-1.

Both managers used allfull available substitutions. For Swansea, Olivier Ntcham, Korey Smith and Kyle Joseph, came on for Jamie Paterson, Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi, Derby brought on Festy Ebosele, Jason Knight and Bartosz Marcin Cybulski to replace Lee Buchanan, Luke Plange and Liam Francis Thompson.

There were bookings for Matt Grimes and Hannes Wolf from Swansea, and Ravel Morrison, for Derby.

Swansea next face Barnsley and Derby are at home to Fulham.
