Sunderland 2-4 Burnley: Clarets continue strong form with big win

Sunderland AFC fell to a home defeat at the hands of Burnley at Stadium of Light on Saturday. Sunderland AFC arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing their last match 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers. Burnley, meanwhile, were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Sunderland AFC and Burnley are 13th, (20 points) and 3rd, (29 points), in the league respectively, after 17 matches.

Sunderland AFC started the first half well, when Amad Traore gave them the lead, 16 minutes in. However they weren’t finished yet and Dan Neill made it 2-0 in the 20th minute, finishing the first half 2-0.

The Clarets started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Nathan Tella in the 50th minute. Burnley looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Manuel Benson, at 61 minutes to establish a 2-2. The momentum was again with Burnley, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Anass Zaroury in the 69th minute to establish a 3-2 result. However they weren’t finished yet and Josh Brownhill made it 4-2 just before the final whistle to give a final score of 4-2.

Substitutions for Sunderland AFC included Jewison Bennette, Abdoullah Ba and Edouard Michut for Alex Pritchard, Elliot Embleton and Corry Evans, respectively. Burnley brought on Manuel Benson, Jack Cork, Jay Rodriguez, Samuel Bastien and Luke McNally, to replace Ashley Barnes, Johann Gudmundsson, Nathan Tella, Anass Zaroury and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

There were bookings for Danny Batth from Sunderland AFC, and Johann Gudmundsson, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Josh Brownhill, for Burnley.

Sunderland AFC will next play Luton Town away, with Burnley facing Reading at home.
