Sheffield Utd 2-1 Sunderland: The Blades claim big three points against the Black Cats

Sheffield United beated Sunderland AFC 2-1 on Wednesday at Bramall Lane. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Sheffield U wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough in their previous game. Sunderland AFC, on the other hand, are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As the table looks today, Sheffield U and Sunderland AFC are 4th, (7 points) and 11th, (5 points), spots respectively, after 4 matches.

Sheffield U dominated the first half, when Anel Ahmedhodzic gave Sheffield U the lead at the 33 minute mark. The Blades then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Max Lowe just before halftime, to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

Sunderland AFC started the second half with an intensified spirit, thanks to a goal from Lynden Gooch, 55 minutes in. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 2-1 to Sheffield U.

Substitutions for Sheffield U included John Fleck, Reda Khadra and Oliver McBurnie for James John McAtee, Rhian Brewster and Iliman Ndiaye, repectively. Sunderland AFC brought on Jay Matete, Bailey Wright, Trai Hume, Aji Alese and Jack Diamond, to replace Ellis Reco Simms, Alex Pritchard, Elliot Embleton, Danny Batth and Jack Clarke.

The referee booked Oliver McBurnie from Sheffield U. Sunderland AFC had the worst of it though, with Luke O’Nien, Lynden Gooch, Jay Matete and Bailey Wright seeing yellow, and Dan Neill then sent off with a red.

Sheffield U will next play Blackburn Rovers at home, with Sunderland AFC facing Stoke City away.
