Rotherham 0-2 Wigan Athletic: The Millers slip up at home against the Latics

Rotherham on Saturday lost to Wigan Athletic on a home defeat at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. Rotherham were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough in their previous game, while Wigan Athletic had lost their previous match against Reading. Rotherham and Wigan Athletic are 11th, (14 points) and 8th, (16 points), spots respectively, after 12 matches.

Wigan Athletic started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Will Keane gave them the lead on the 12 minute mark, finishing the first half 1-0.

Wigan Athletic continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Tom Naylor found the net, 84 minutes in, seing the match finish 2-0.

Substitutions for Rotherham included Jamie Lindsay, Tom Eaves, Shane Ferguson and Georgie Kelly for Oliver Rathbone, Conor Washington, Cohen Bramall and Daniel Barlaser, respectively. Wigan Athletic brought on Josh Magennis, Tendayi Darikwa and Graeme Shinnie, to replace Charlie Wyke, Thelo Aasgaard and Nathan Broadhead.

There were bookings for Richard Wood, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Ben Wiles from Rotherham. For Wigan Athletic, Ben Amos saw yellow.

Rotherham will next play Millwall at home, with Wigan Athletic facing Hull City away.
