Reading 2-1 Cardiff: The Royals see off the Bluebirds at the Madejski Stadium

Cardiff City on away loss to Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday. Reading arrived at the match looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Blackpool. Cardiff, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Norwich City. After today’s result, both teams are on 3 points and sit in 11th and 12th places respectively after 2 matches.

Cardiff started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from Callum O’Dowda in the 4th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Shane Long equalised for Reading at the 27 minute mark, concluding the first half 1-1.

The Royals continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Tom Ince found the net, 63 minutes in, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Reading included Kelvin Abrefa, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan and John Clarke for Ovie Ejaria, Shane Long and Junior Hoilett, repectively. Cardiff replaced Andy Rinomhota, Max Watters, Sheyi Ojo, Romaine Sawyers and Mahlon Romeo for Joe Ralls, Mark Thomas Harris, Kion Etete, Tom Sang and Jaden Philogene-Bidace.

There were bookings for Junior Hoilett, Kelvin Abrefa and Andy Yiadom from Reading. For Cardiff, Curtis Nelson, Jamilu Collins and Mark Thomas Harris saw yellow.

Reading will next play Rotherham United away, with Cardiff facing Birmingham City at home.
