Preston North End eased past West Bromwich Albion in a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Deepdale. North End were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Sunderland AFC in their previous game. West Brom were beaten 3-2 in their previous match against Swansea City. North End and West Brom sit 11th, (16 points) and 22nd, (10 points), spots respectively, after 13 matches.

The Lilywhites started the match strongly, with a goal from Emil Riis early in the first half to see out the first half 1-0. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 1-0.

Substitutions for North End included Brad Potts, Ryan Ledson, Benjamin Woodburn and Troy Parrott for Alan Browne, Robbie Brady, Sean Maguire and Emil Riis, respectively. West Brom brought on Jake Livermore, Tom Rogic, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Matthew Phillips, to replace Okay Yokuslu, Jayson Molumby, Karlan Grant and John Swift.

There were bookings for Ben Whiteman and Jordan Storey from North End, and Grady Diangana, for West Brom.

North End will next travel to Norwich City, while West Brom will face Luton Town at home.
