Preston 0-1 Birmingham: Blues upset the odds to beat Lilywhites

Birmingham City beat Preston North End with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Deepdale. North End were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Coventry City, while Birmingham were beaten 2-1 in their previous match against Norwich City. North End are currently 10th with 11 points from 8 matches, while Birmingham sit in 20th, with 8 points from 8.

The first half of the match started favourably for Birmingham, thanks to a goal from Maxime Colin in the 16th minute, concluding the first half 1-0. The second part was uneventful with no goals and little action at either end.

Substitutions for North End included Alvaro Fernandez, Ched Evans, Mikey O’Neill, Ryan Ledson and Daniel Johnson for Brad Potts, Alan Browne, Ben Whiteman, Troy Parrott and Ali McCann, respectively. Birmingham brought on Jordan James, Lukas Jutkiewicz, George Hall, Hannibal Mejbri and Jobe Bellingham, to replace Tahith Chong, Troy Deeney, Krystian Bielik, Scott Hogan and Juninho Bacuna.

There were bookings for Ched Evans from North End. For Birmingham, Marc Roberts, Scott Hogan and Jordan James saw yellow.

North End will next play Bristol City away, with Birmingham facing Swansea City at home.
