Peterborough United 0 – Boro 4: Abax Stadium stunned as visitors seal victory

Middlesbrough’s 4-0 win over Peterborough United on Saturday, was hard fought at Abax Stadium. Both Peterborough United and Boro arrived on the back of wins. Peterborough United were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning last match. Boro were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-0 victory against Birmingham City. After today’s result, Peterborough United and Boro sit 24th, (26 points) and 8th, (59 points), in the table respectively, after 40 matches.

Boro started strongly in the first half, with Marcus Tavernier opening the rout in the 26th minute. The score at half time was 0-1.

Boro started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from Folarin Balogun in the 49th minute. The momentum was now with The Boro, who then scored again through a goal from Duncan Watmore, at 83 minutes to establish a 3-0. They then extended the lead with a 2nd effort from Duncan Watmore just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-0.

Both managers used the full entitlement. For Peterborough United, Ricky Jade-Jones, Kwame Poku and Jorge Grant, came on for Jonson Clarke-Harris, Emmanuel Fernandez and Jack Taylor, Boro brought on Duncan Watmore, Josh Coburn and Lee Peltier, to replace Folarin Balogun, Aaron Connolly and Isaiah Jones.

There were bookings for Frankie Kent and Josh Knight from Peterborough United, and Marcus Tavernier, for Boro.

Peterborough United will play their next fixture away against Bristol City, while Boro will face Hull City at home.
