Millwall 2-1 West Brom: The Lions record home win against The Baggies

On Saturday, West Bromwich Albion suffered an away defeat to Millwall at the Den. Millwall were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two games against Watford at home and Bristol City away, by 3-0 and 2-1 respectively. West Brom had lost their previous match against Bristol City. Millwall and West Brom currently occupy 5th and 23rd spots in the table, with 26 points and 14 points respectively after 17 matches.

West Brom started strongly in the first half, when John Swift gave them the lead on the 20 minute mark. However, their lead was short-lived, as Callum Styles equalised for Millwall, 38 minutes in. The score at half time remained 1-1.

The Lions rallied after this and were rewarded, when Tyler Burey found the net just before the final whistle, seing the match finish 2-1.

Both coaches made full use of their substitutions. Substitutions for Millwall included Charlie Cresswell, Tyler Burey and Benik Afobe for Shaun Hutchinson, Andreas Voglsammer and Tom Bradshaw, respectively, West Brom replaced Conor Townsend, Tom Rogic and Jayson Molumby with Erik Pieters, John Swift and Taylor Gardner-Hickman.

The referee booked Billy Mitchell from Millwall. West Brom had the worst of it though, with Dara O’Shea seeing yellow, and Kyle Bartley (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Millwall will next play Huddersfield Town away, with West Brom facing Sheffield United at home.
