Cardiff 0-1 Sheffield Utd: Blades back to winning ways with narrow success

Sheffield United’s 1-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday, was hard fought at the Cardiff City Stadium. Both Cardiff and Sheffield U arrived on the back of wins. Cardiff had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning last match while Sheffield U were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Burnley and Bristol City. Cardiff are now in 19th place on the table and have 24 points while Sheffield U sit in 1st with 38 points after 21 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Sheffield U continued to apply pressure in the second period, when George Baldock found the net, at 64 minutes. When the final whistle blew, the result was 1-0 to Sheffield U.

Substitutions for Cardiff included Rubin Colwill, Sheyi Ojo, Gavin Whyte and Andy Rinomhota for Mark Thomas Harris, Niels Nkounkou, Joe Ralls and Tom Sang, respectively. Sheffield U brought on Ciaran Clark, James John McAtee and Reda Khadra, to replace Jack Robinson, Ollie Arblaster and Iliman Ndiaye.

The referee booked Enda Stevens for Sheffield U.

Cardiff will play away against Stoke City, while Sheffield U will face Huddersfield Town at home.
