Cardiff 0-1 Coventry: Bluebirds out of tune at home as Coventy nail three points

Cardiff were defeated at home by Coventry City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday. Cardiff were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Wigan Athletic away and Blackburn Rovers at home, by 3-1 and 1-0 respectively while Coventry were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against Burnley. Cardiff and Coventry currently occupy 16th and 24th spots in the league, with 18 points and 10 points respectively after 15 matches.

Coventry started strongly in the first half, when Viktor Gyokeres gave them the lead in the 34th minute, which saw the first half end 1-0. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Substitutions for Cardiff included Romaine Sawyers, Jack Simpson, Sheyi Ojo, Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Kion Etete for Andy Rinomhota, Vontae Daley-Campbell, Niels Nkounkou, Callum O’Dowda and Mark Thomas Harris, respectively. Coventry brought on Michael Rose, Kasey Palmer and Martyn Waghorn, to replace Callum Doyle, Jamie Allen and Matt Godden.

There were bookings for Mark Thomas Harris from Cardiff, and Viktor Gyokeres, Ben Sheaf, Jonathan Panzo and Jake Bidwell, for Coventry.

Cardiff will next play Queens Park Rangers away, with Coventry facing Sheffield United at home.
