Burnley 3 – Rotherham 2: The Clarets prevail in home win against The Millers

Burnley strolled past Rotherham United with a 3-2 win on Wednesday at Turf Moor. Burnley were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games against Reading at home and Norwich City at home, by 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. Rotherham were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against Cardiff City. Burnley and Rotherham currently occupy 1st and 14th spots in the table, with 38 points and 22 points respectively after 19 matches.

Rotherham started the first half well, with an early goal from Ben Wiles in the 3rd minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jay Rodriguez equalised for Burnley on the 35 minute mark to see out the first half 1-1.

The Millers fought back the second half, when Chiedozie Ogbene gave them the lead, 64 minutes in. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Manuel Benson, 90 minutes in brought The Clarets level. Burnley then netted again and turned the match thanks to a goal from Halil Dervisoglu just before the full time to make it 3-2.

Both teams used all available substitutes. Substitutions for Burnley included Manuel Benson and Halil Dervisoglu for Johann Gudmundsson and Nathan Tella, respectively, Rotherham brought on Chiedozie Ogbene, Jamie Lindsay, Richard Wood and Georgie Kelly, to replace Hakeem Odofin, Conor Washington, Oliver Rathbone and Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

The referee booked Ian Maatsen, Josh Brownhill and Louis Beyer from Burnley. Rotherham had the worst of it though, with Cohen Bramall, Daniel Barlaser and Ben Wiles seeing yellow, and Cohen Bramall (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Burnley will next play Sheffield United away, with Rotherham facing Norwich City at home.
