Birmingham 1-1 Burnley: Clarets secure a point at St Andrew’s

Birmingham were helde ach other to a 1-1 draw by Burnley on Wednesday at St Andrew’s Stadium. Both Birmingham and Burnley arrived on the back of wins. Birmingham were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches against Hull City away and Bristol City at home, by 2-0 and 3-0 respectively. Burnley were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Swansea City and Coventry City. Birmingham are currently 14th with 20 points from 16 matches, while Burnley sit in 3rd, with 26 points from 16.

After an uneventful first half, Burnley took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Johann Gudmundsson, at 74 minutes. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Scott Hogan equalised for Birmingham on the 80 minute mark, leaving the final score at 1-1.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. Substitutions for Birmingham included Juninho Bacuna, Lukas Jutkiewicz, George Hall and Jobe Bellingham for Tahith Chong, Harlee Dean, Krystian Bielik and Troy Deeney, respectively, Burnley brought on Johann Gudmundsson and Manuel Benson to replace Jack Cork and Nathan Tella.

There were bookings for Tahith Chong from Birmingham, and Jack Cork and Anass Zaroury, for Burnley.

Next up, Birmingham are away to Blackburn Rovers, whilst Burnley will travel to face Sunderland AFC.
