Ternana 1 – Lecce 4: Home side left shocked by plundering visitors

Lecce’s 4-1 win over Ternana Calcio on Tuesday, was hard fought at Stadio Libero Liberati. Both Ternana and Lecce arrived on the back of wins. Ternana were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Cittadella away (2-1), the other to US Alessandria at home (3-0). Lecce were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against Frosinone in their last match. After today’s result, Ternana are in 12th place on the table and has 44 points while Lecce sit in 2nd with 62 points after 33 matches.

Giallorossi started the game well, with an early goal from Coda in the 5th minute. Lecce looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Gabriel Espeto, 20 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, Ternana secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Bogdan just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-2.

Lecce continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Di Mariano finding the net, 78 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Ragusa just before the final whistle to make it 4-1.

For Ternana, Mazzocchi, Martella, Federico Furlan, Boben and Peralta, came on for Celli, Donnarumma, Ilias Koutsoupias, Sørensen and Partipilo. Lecce replaced Gendrey, Blin, Gargiulo, Gabriel Espeto and Di Mariano for Calabresi, Helgason, Bjorkengren, Ragusa and Faragò.

There were bookings for Celli, Sørensen and Pettinari from Ternana. For Lecce, Lucioni, Gabriel Espeto and Gendrey saw yellow.

Ternana will next travel to Crotone, while Lecce will face SPAL at home.
