SPAL 2 – Venezia 0: Points secure for The Little Swallows at Stadio Paolo Mazza

Venezia fell to an away defeat at the hands of SPAL at Stadio Paolo Mazza on Sunday. SPAL were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 2-2 draw with SSC Bari in their previous game whilst Venezia were beaten 2-0 in their previous match against Benevento. SPAL are now in 7th place on the table and have 8 points while Venezia sit in 16th with 4 points after 5 matches.

The Little Swallows started strongly in the first half, when La Mantia gave them the lead on the 29 minute mark, to take a 1-0 lead into half time.

SPAL once more applied the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Finotto just before the final whistle, seing the match finish 2-0.

Substitutions for SPAL included Zanellato, Rabbi, Raffaele Celia and Finotto for Proia, Maistro, Tripaldelli and La Mantia, respectively. Venezia brought on Tessmann, Modolo, Novakovich, Cheryshev and Pierini, to replace Johnsen, Candela, Connolly, Cuisance and Crnigoj.

The referee booked Meccariello and Finotto from SPAL. Venezia had the worst of it though, with Candela, Fiordilino and Tessmann seeing yellow, and Tessmann (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

SPAL will next travel to Como, while Venezia will face Pisa at home.
